Tragedy struck in Salt Lake City, Utah, where a shooting outside a Mormon church left two individuals dead and multiple others injured. This devastating incident unfolded on Wednesday as police reported that the gunfire erupted in the parking area of a meetinghouse belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly referred to as the Mormon church.
The attack resulted in at least eight adult victims; tragically, two succumbed to their wounds while three survivors are currently in critical condition. The status of the remaining victims has not yet been disclosed.
At the time of the shooting, dozens of mourners were gathered inside the church for a funeral service. All of those affected by the shooting were adults, amplifying the sorrow felt by the community.
Authorities have stated that they do not believe the shooter targeted a specific religion. "We don’t believe this was a targeted attack against a religion or anything like that," remarked Salt Lake City police chief Brian Redd, easing concerns about potential religious motivations behind the violence.
