Green Bay Packers Make Strategic Roster Adjustments | Dec. 30, 2025
The Packers are shaking things up! In a series of strategic moves, they've claimed DL Jonathan Ford from the Chicago Bears, signed CB Shemar Bartholomew and CB Jaylin Simpson to the active roster, added RB Damien Martinez to the practice squad, placed CB Kamal Hadden and DL Jordon Riley on injured reserve, and released DL Quinton Bohanna. These transactions were announced by General Manager Brian Gutekunst on Tuesday.
Ford's Journey to the Packers
Jonathan Ford, a 6-5, 338-pound defensive lineman, is a familiar face to the Packers. He was originally selected by the Packers in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, showcasing the team's commitment to talent from the University of Miami (Fla.). Despite not making an appearance in any games during his time on the active roster and practice squad from 2022-24, Ford's potential was recognized. He was signed to the Bears' active roster in October 2024, where he played in four games, recording nine tackles and a tackle for a loss. This season, Ford has been a key player for the Bears, participating in eight games and contributing four tackles.
Martinez's Rise to the Top
Damien Martinez, a rookie running back from the University of Miami (Fla.), was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft. His journey began on the Seahawks' practice squad, but the Packers saw potential and signed him to their practice squad. Martinez's college career was impressive, earning All-Pac-12 first-team honors in two seasons at Oregon State and a spot on the 247Sports True Freshman All-America team in 2022. In 2023, he had a standout season at Miami, becoming the first Hurricane running back to rush for over 1,000 yards since 2016, earning All-ACC honorable mention.
These moves demonstrate the Packers' strategic approach to building a competitive roster, addressing both immediate needs and long-term potential. With Ford and Martinez joining the team, the Packers are adding depth and talent, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
