Unverified reports of Iga Swiatek's coaching split are dismissed as fake news by Polish tennis journalist Dominik Senkowski.
In recent days, unverified reports have circulated, suggesting that the six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek has parted ways with her Belgian coach, Wim Fissette, due to a poor start to 2026. These rumors even claimed that Swiatek agreed to a trial period with Carlos Rodriguez. However, Senkowski, who has a history of seeking information from Swiatek's team, contacted them and was informed that these reports are entirely false.
Senkowski, addressing the misinformation, stated on X, "I can confirm that this is fake news. Iga Świątek is not parting ways with Wim Fissette. I usually ignore such topics, but it's concerning that more media outlets and tennis journalists are spreading this false information. We need to be cautious about disinformation these days."
Swiatek's partnership with Fissette began in October 2024, following the end of a four-year collaboration with coach Tomasz Wiktorowski. Together, they have achieved significant success, including winning three titles, with the most notable being Swiatek's first Wimbledon victory last year. However, this year, Swiatek has faced consistency issues, with a record of just 9-4 after participating in the United Cup, the Australian Open, and Doha. Her recent setbacks include an early exit from the Australian Open and a shocking Doha quarterfinal loss to Maria Sakkari.
Swiatek is currently not competing after withdrawing from the Dubai tournament. Senkowski's clarification aims to set the record straight and prevent further spread of misinformation.
